We are excited to offer a challenging opportunity for a Senior Project Manager with expertise in FERC Accounting to join our Rates and Regulatory Department. This position is designed to be remote, with the flexibility of a hybrid arrangement if you are located near one of our office locations.
In this role, you'll be part of a dynamic team supporting a diverse range of clients, including utilities, municipalities, and government agencies. You'll have the opportunity to engage in a variety of regulatory and accounting matters, particularly related to utility cost-of-service rate proceedings.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide expert consulting on complex utility accounting and tax issues, focusing on how these matters impact utility rate outcomes.
- Lead and collaborate with consulting teams to identify accounting and tax-related issues in utility cost-of-service and regulatory proceedings.
- Independently prepare expert testimony for regulatory cases, litigation support, and disputes for public power, consumer-owned utilities, large industrial users, and state regulatory commissions.
- Communicate complex accounting and tax concepts related to cost-of-service principles in a clear, easy-to-understand way for clients.
- Conduct independent research to support regulatory positions and stay up to date on evolving accounting, tax, and utility matters.
- Mentor junior staff and contribute to their professional development.
Qualifications:
- 12+ years of experience in utility accounting, with a preference for experience in ratemaking and cost-of-service concepts.
- Familiarity with FERC and/or state utility regulations.
- Strong understanding of income tax matters, including the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017, Inflation Reduction Act (2022), Accumulated Deferred Income Taxes, Net Operating Loss Carryforwards, Investment Tax Credits, and Production Tax Credits.
- Excellent research, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Testimony experience (preferred, but not required), or experience in conveying technical positions in writing.
- Experience with audits, investigations, or reviews involving utility cost-of-service matters.
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to present technical information to non-expert clients.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Willingness to travel occasionally (5-20%).
- CPA certification preferred, but not required.
- Experience in natural gas is a plus, but not mandatory.
